In Terranova you can experience the nature of the Kvarken archipelago in the middle of the city. You can see and hear the birds, pat a seal on the head and look into a virtual aquarium, teeming with fishes of all sizes. The butterflies of the region are shown in the insect room and in the Kingdom of Stones you can touch ancient rocks.

"Terranova" is Latin for "new land". The exhibition provides information on the ice age and land uplift which has formed the nature of the Kvarken archipelago and High Coast area. It also presents the beautiful nature of today´s archipelago, as well as the plants and animals that live there. In the auditorium, nature films are shown which present visualized information about the Ice Age and the land uplift phenomenon. In the Kingdom of Stones and the Ice Cave you can learn more about the development of the earth and about the World Heritage site.

Terranova is a great starting point for those who would like to learn more about the World Heritage site. If you would like even deeper knowledge, you can book a guided tour of the museum. A guided tour can also be a great activity for businesses and associations.

Terranova is situated in the same facilities as the Ostrobothnian Museum, in the centre of the town of Vaasa. The exhibition is maintained by the city of Vaasa, the Natural Science Department of the Ostrobothnian Museum.
